Excerpt from Mr. Adnan Oktar's Live Conversation on A9TV dated September 20th, 2015

ADNAN OKTAR: The Prophet Joseph (pbuh)'s brothers showed the signs of hypocrisy. "When Joseph placed the container inside their products, his brothers immediately blamed their youngest brother.  “He used to steal anyway, his brother was the same too," they said. Look, they accuse the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) of stealing. Hypocrites are not only thieves, but also their soul has a strong disposition towards slandering, treachery and scheming. For example, here we can see a typical hypocrite behavior. Hypocrites are very vile. They have absolutely no principles, they are shameless, dishonorable and animal-like creatures with dull souls who will do anything to satisfy their primordial desires, their souls are like pigs'.

GOKALP BARLAN: You said that above all else, they are jealous. They are jealous of their brother, Joseph (pbuh).

ADNAN OKTAR: They are very envious, extremely envious. If someone else is loved other than themselves, hypocrites get offended. They want all the attention on themselves. That is why they look like they are hungry for love, but that is not love, it is pride and vanity. Their purpose is to feel superior. They envy the love Prophet Joseph (pbuh) receives and they attempt to murder him, look at how deviated and tainted hypocrites' moral values are. Hypocrites cannot tolerate it when someone else is loved instead of them. They want all the attention on themselves. They want everybody to love them, not anyone else. And the purpose behind that desire to be loved is the feeling of superiority. I mean, they do not care about being loved in real terms. They build their whole life around superiority and reputation. And they are capable of performing all manners of schemes and tricks for it. As an example, just look at what kind of schemes and treachery they employ to martyr the Prophet Joseph (pbuh). For example, they are thinking of leaving him at the bottom of the well, or other treacherous ways to harm him. That woman is like that too, because she has the soul of a hypocrite, she supposedly loves him.  Whereas she becomes obstinate there, she becomes egocentric. And because of her deviation, her egocentricity and deviation she says, "How can you defy my orders?" Otherwise, it is not because of her love towards Prophet Joseph (pbuh), she tries to send him to jail. Does a loving person try to send someone she loves to jail? He serves seven years in prison, she does not even know, nor does she care, seven years. Is this something that a loving person would do? Hypocrites harbor immense hatred and grudge. They exploit love for pride, grandness and superiority. As God says, "There you are, loving them when they do not love you." Believers are unaware of this, and due to their good intentions, they show love and compassion towards them. But God says those treacherous creatures do not have love, "they don't know love," God says. For that reason, if hypocrites are not loved, if no one is paying attention to them, they deviate, start to act fiercely. Just as how if you stop giving food to an animal it becomes fierce, aggressive and violent, if you stop giving attention and love to hypocrites they become violent and aggressive like animals. Their insolence and aggression immensely increase; their attitudes and expressions become aggressive. Because that is something that defies hypocrites' vanity and egocentricity. Because they need to be loved so that they can show off to others. This subject is covered quite extensively in Surah Yusuf.

CAN DAGTEKIN: You said "hypocrites can use their eyes well.". You said, "They can cry at will." The same with the Prophet Joseph (pbuh)'s brothers.

ADNAN OKTAR: Yes, they display typical hypocritical moral values. For example, they can cry at will. Whenever they want, they can tell a lie as if their words are sincere and consistent. The deception and lies of the hypocrites are also covered extensively in the Surah Yusuf. Hypocrites are incredibly deceptive. They can lie rapidly when they are in a tight situation; they jump from one topic to another. They can start lying in an instant. And they are very evil. It can only be noticed through the vigilance and depth of guardianship and insight of prophets. And because people do not realize this, God says, "there you are, loving them" without realizing "they do not love you." Because all hypocrites think about are vanity, egocentricity and superiority. These are their only purpose.

GÖKALP BARLAN: You said, "They forge evidence" referring to a verse from the Quran about forging a false bloody shirt.

ADNAN OKTAR: Indeed, they prepare a bloody shirt. They tell everyone that the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) is killed by an animal. This also shows us that how horrifying hypocrites can be, the extent of their deviation. The Quran shows us how prone they are to murder, how they are capable of doing every treachery, how immoral they are. But look, they unintentionally help the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) to become a prophet and to become the sultan of Egypt. Do you see it? Were it not for the hypocrites, he would not have been the sultan of Egypt. Through the Prophet Joseph (pbuh)'s fate, God makes hypocrites the reason of his success. God grants him immense wealth, beauty, youth, a kingdom, authority, success, intelligence, wisdom along with every kind of beauty and of course ultimately, the heaven. Normally people would think that hypocrites are supposed to be harmful. But they are incredibly beneficial to believers. For believers, hypocrites are an immense force that drives them to faith. But in the end hypocrites ruin themselves, that is another matter. Like satan. Satan ruins himself but unintentionally helps believers to go to heaven.  As you know, satan contributes to believers achieving the rank of heaven. Satan is an important part of our trial; satan and the self. For example, the self is a creature that is created as the enemy of God. So is satan. But they both contribute towards believers going to heaven. Hypocrites are the same. Eventually they become the reason for believers to go to heaven. We should keep this fact in mind when we consider about hypocrites. But of course, instead of regarding the hypocrites as the adversary, we should keep in mind that we ourselves might be a hypocrite. We have to discipline ourselves by taking the verses of the Quran as personal, and by fearing God. Hypocrites do not care about those verses anyway; they are usually after hatching new tricks and schemes. The thievish side of hypocrites is explained clearly in the Quran, their disposition for thievery. Their disposition to scheme, the fact that they hatch plans for thievery is also explained extensively in the Torah. And also in the hadiths. First, they lay the groundwork before stealing something. They cause trouble wherever they go. For example, not only among Muslims, but also among the unbelievers, they steal from them too. For example, they go into a shop and steal. They go to a workplace and steal something from there too; it is in their nature. They expect everything to be readily handed to them. They do not want to earn something through hard work; they want to earn their living through thievery and fraud. They are creatures who use and spend Muslims' goods by stealing them. The reason why they are thieves is that they take those goods without earning them. Because normally, a believer's goods are for the believers.  However, because he is a creature among unbelievers, because he is evil, believers do not want to feed or help satan.  Therefore, everything they eat or drink is considered stolen. And in the Hereafter, they will regret for every piece of asset they stole. Because even though they are not Muslims, they pretend to be and live together with Muslims, therefore they are deceiving Muslims. And every asset they take advantage of that belongs to Muslims is considered stolen. They are held responsible for all that in the Hereafter, as thieves.

For example, in that Joseph parable the woman is very fond of her vanity. She says, "You see! It’s him you blamed me for." I seek refuge in God from satan. She is offended by being blamed. "I tried seducing him but he refused. If he does not do what I order him," look, she is having a fit of egocentricity, depravity, "he will be put in prison and brought low.’" (Surah Yusuf, 32) Look, she says, he will be brought low. Because she is egocentric, she thinks she can bring him low, humiliate him to render herself superior. However, he will not be humiliated, on the contrary, he will only become more estimable; it is her who will be humiliated and brought low. The Prophet Joseph (pbuh) being sent to prison only became more respectable, this made him utterly estimable. He was exalted in the eyes of God. But that woman was humiliated, brought low. She claims that she supposedly loved him. This is not love; this is the ambition for superiority over other women. Because she calls other women too, she is egocentric around them too, their gossips offend her. This time she wants to humiliate other women too to glorify herself. As you know, she gives them knives. When the women cut their hands, indeed they are very impressed by the Prophet Joseph (pbuh). Because they are enticed, they are charmed by him. He is a handsome man. They are enticed by him as women. They become stunned. This is something that happens with intense excitation. They lose control of their hands out of extreme excitement and cut their hands. And she says, "Look, you can see it, they are too enticed by him, why are you condemning me?  Now I'm superior, and you are inferior to me," she says. All she thinks about is superiority. She does not care about love. The reason why she wants the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) to be sent to prison is her ambition to be superior. The Prophet Joseph (pbuh)'s brothers too do not care about love; they only care about superiority, competition.  "How come they love him more and not us?" Because they think they cannot dignify themselves with him around, they even attempt to kill him. For this reason, every immorality, treachery, vileness, insolence, acts of crying, sedition, every trick hypocrites play for love, is actually a one big scheme, these are all a scheme to achieve a sense of superiority, they do not stem from love. Because in a verse God says, "When their interest conflicts with yours, you see them looking at you, their eyes rolling like people scared to death,” as if they are about to die, near death. God says, "their eyes roll, they stand still, you see them looking at you with a meaningless and horrifying expression." It means we will be faced with these expressions. As it is indicated in the Quran, we will see them.  For example, God mentions pomegranate, and we can see pomegranates. He mentions banana, and we can see bananas. God says sun, and we can see sun. He tells us about hypocrites, we will see hypocrites too. For this reason, believers would never ask why there are hypocrites or unbelievers around them. They consider them as a blessing, because their presence helps believers become more faithful and powerful, it helps their positions to rise.

OKTAR BABUNA: Our Prophet (saas) says in one of his hadiths that the verse -I seek refuge in God from satan-, "You would know the culprits from their faces" is revealed for Hazrat Mahdi (as), insha’Allah.

ADNAN OKTAR: Indeed. Our Prophet has a hadith like that, insha’Allah.
